Book Cover Design
The design of your cover is central to the success of your publishing venture. Your cover needs to look good not only when it’s in the palm of someone’s hand but when it’s a thumbnail image on a bookseller’s website.
We’ll work with you so that:
The cover will improve the saleability
Readers are judgemental and they make their judgements in a fraction of a second. Don’t give them an excuse to discard your book and move on.
The cover will appeal to the intended audience
If the cover does not reflect the content and the target audience they’ll pass you by without realising you were there
A bookshop won’t refuse to display it
Could there be any worse moment than when you present your book to the bookshop manager and he or she gives the cover a look of disdain. The reaction you want from someone who sees thousands of book covers is an instant willingness to display it because it is a professional book.
You’ll be proud of your book
As a published author you will be asked about your book by all sorts of friends and acquaintances. The last thing you want to do is to hand someone your book with an apologetic explanation about the cover
If you have cover images you would like to use we’re happy to incorporate these but sometimes this leads to a conflict between hard-headed business necessity and self indulgence. Both are OK as long as you know which one you are plumping for and why. If you are publishing privately it isn’t such an issue but otherwise put yourself in the position of a buyer who doesn’t know you from Adam and isn’t impressed that the illustration you have on the front cover was done by you at school and you won a pencil set for it.
